Topic: The Volleys - How to avoid that feeling of "dead hit" when you have to receive pace or a reflex volley...

Too many players squeeze the racket handle in their reaction to a lot of pace hit to them and/or when they have to reflex a volley, especially in doubles..

Big mistake...

Too much grip tension can result in "dead hits" even though the ball ends up perfectly in your racket's sweet spot.

And too much grip tension can eventually develop into a nasty tennis elbow.  That we don't want..

So, practice with a partner who hits you fairly fast shots from close range.  Focus on relaxing your hands just prior to your partner making contact with their feed to you.

Don't worry about how well you actually hit your volleys for awhile.  Soften your hands and greatness will soon be there...!
