Tip

Brent Abel here, WebTennis.net. This
week's tip is on your overhead.
Over the last couple of weeks, we talked about how do you want to
respond to the volleys, especially in doubles when you have to move.
What we talked
about is to make sure that you use your feet first, as opposed to
reaching with your hands.
I want to kind of give you the same tip on the overhead.
When someone lobs
you too often, what I see is players look at it and just back up.
By the time the
ball is sort of found and it is time to hit it, they're not really
prepared with the racquet.
The big worry in my mind, as a teaching pro, is I see players back
up and I'm afraid they're going to get off balance and fall over
backwards.
That's obviously
going to be a problem.
So what I want you to feel first, when you recognize a lob, is that
you turn the shoulders and then you can sidestep back.
We're going to
have Mai demonstrate that for us today.
Now, those are three easy ones.
I'm going to give
her a deeper one where she's really going to have to turn and go
back.
The first thing
is to turn the shoulders, and the other big key here, kind of a
bonus tip, is that you want to feel that you can reclaim your net
position as you're making this overhead.
So, you go back,
and then you come back in.
You turn and then
you come back in.
I hope this has helped. Any questions,
Brent@webtennis.net .
Thanks very much. |
